    • PURPOSE:To improve the brightness, contrast, etc., by preparing a cathode ray tube having a phosphor layer comprised of phosphor particles having a pigment deposited thereon in such a manner that the pigment is deposited in a state of dispersion in a ceramic film having a small refractive index. CONSTITUTION:A pigment which selectively exhibits a high degree of reflection in the same region as the luminescent color of phosphor particles 11 used (e.g., blue pigment comprising cobalt aluminate) is mixed with an ethanol soln. of an alcoholate compd. of silicon to prepare a pigment dispersion. The pigment dispersion is mixed with the particles of a phosphor (e.g., ZnS:AG,Cl blue phosphor). The mixture is calcined to form a ceramic film comprising an amorphous silica film 13 contg. pigment 12 dispersed therein on the surface of the phosphor particles 11. A phosphor layer comprising the phosphor thus obtd. is formed on the inside surface of a panel, followed by provision of an electron gun which emits cathode rays, thereby obtaining an intended cathode ray tube. This improves the reflection on the surface of the pigment 13 and adhesion of the pigment to the phosphor 11.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the brightness and contrast of fluorescent screen while to eliminate uneven brightness by covering the surface of fluorescent particles constituting a fluorescent screen with filter film thereby suppressing the energy loss of electron beam due to the filter particles to the minimum while preventing drop-out from the fluorescent particles. CONSTITUTION:The fluorescent screen is composed of fluorescent particle layer having specific grain size where the surface of the fluorescent particle is covered with a filter film of same system color with the light to be emitted from the fluorescent particles. For example, a filter film 31 is formed onto the surface of fluorescent particle 30 conditioned to have the average grain size of 3-20mum. The thickness of the filter film 31 can be selected properly with correspondence to the excitation energy of electron beam to be smaller than 1.5mum or 2mum, respectively for 25kV and 30kV. The filter film 31 is formed as a continuous glass layer or a partially discontinuous layer onto the surface of the fluorescent particles 30 of metal oxide film.

SOLUTION: The luminance of a red phosphor is determined to be more than 1.40 times that of a blue phosphor.
