    • PURPOSE:To obtain fine MgO powder having high purity and extremely small particle size by specifying conditions for generating Mg vapor and for bringing the Mg vapor into contact with O2 in a process for prepg. MgO by allowing Mg vapor generated by heating Mg to contact O2. CONSTITUTION:Metallic Mg 5 is charged in a retort 3 installed in an evaporating section A and is heated in an electric furnace 2 to evaporate Mg 5 in an atmosphere of Mg vapor. Generated Mg vapor is fed to an oxidation reaction section B where it is allowed to contact with O2 in the gas supplied to the reaction section B through a gas feeding duct 6. In this stage, the partial pressure of O2 in the O2-contg. gas is adjusted to >=2 times the partial vapor pressure of Mg, and the reaction temp. is held at 1,200-2,000 deg.C, and the Mg vapor is exhausted from an exhausting port 4 and is allowed to contact with O2-contg. gas fed from the duct 6 in parallel flow to oxidize Mg to MgO.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a treatment method applying water washing treatment to the dust accompanied by the extraction gas when a part of baked gas is extracted in order to reduce the circulation of chlorine, alkali and sulfur in a cement manufacturing apparatus to reutilize a solid component as a cement raw material while removing a harmful substance from the treated soln. up to a drainage standard value or less to discharge and discard the treated soln. SOLUTION: A process wherein water is added to extraction dust to prepare a slurry and the pH value of the slurry is adjusted to 10 or more to perform the solid-liquid separation of the slurry, a process adjusting the pH of the obtained filtrate to 6-8 to sediment a dissolved harmful substance to perform the second solid-liquid separation and a process adjusting the pH value of the obtained filtrate to 1.5-3 and adding a ferrous compd. thereto and subsequently adjusting the pH value of the soln. to 9-10 to form a sediment and further adding a high molecular metal collector and a high molecular flocculant to the sediment-containing formed slurry to perform third solid-liquid separation are combined to remove alkali and chlorine from a washing soln.
