      SOLUTION: An optical modulating element holder 4402 for the optical modulator 440A includes planar members 442A and 443A and frame-like members 4405 and 4406. Cooling rooms R1 and R2 are cavities surrounded by the frame-like members 4405 and 4406, a liquid panel 441 and the planar members 442A and 443A in such a situation where the liquid panel 441 and the planar members 442A and 443A are supported by the frame-like members 4405 and 4406. The frame-like members 4405 and 4406 have a circulation port 4405H for making the cooling fluid flow into the cooling rooms R1 and R2, a circulation port 4406H for making the cooling fluid in the cooling rooms R1 and R2 flow out and rectifying parts 4405G and 4406G for rectifying the cooling fluid flowing into the cooling rooms R1 and R2 through the circulation port 4405H in a direction orthogonal to the optical modulation surface.
