    • PURPOSE:To couple the optical semiconductor laser beam of large flatness rate of radiation angle at a low loss to a single mode optical fiber by varying the radii of curvature of two pieces of reference spherical faces which pass the intersected point of a lens face and an optical axis and the outermost peripheral position effective as a lens on the lens face and intersect orthogonally with each other. CONSTITUTION:The image magnification M of the lens 5 is varied in horizontal and vertical directions and is set to convert the flat spot in the exit part 4a of the optical semiconductor laser 4 to a spot of the same shape as the circular shape of the incident end face 3a of an optical fiber 3 on the end face 3a by the lens 5 for optical coupling.     • PURPOSE:To simplify the stage for adjustment and assembly by fixing an optical semiconductor element to a predetermined fixing position of a holding member and positioning an optical fiber in such a manner that exit light is coupled with prescribed light intensity to the end face of the optical fiber, thereby fixing the element to the holding member. CONSTITUTION:The cylindrical holding member 10 having a prescribed length, a lens 20 for condensing fixed between both ends thereof, the optical semiconductor element 6 fixed on one end side of the holding member 10, and the optical fiber 1 fixed on the other end are provided. The position adjustment of the optical semiconductor element 6 with the lens 20 is not executed in the optical axis direction of the lens 20 and in the direction perpendicular to the optical axis and the optical semiconductor element 6 is fixed to the preset position of the holding member 10. The optical fiber 1 is moved in the direction perpendicular to the optical axis of the lens 20 and is fixed to the holding member 10 in such a manner that the light emitted from the optical semiconductor element 6 and condensed by the lens 20 is coupled with the prescribed light intensity to the end face of the optical fiber 1. The stage for the adjustment and assembly is simplified in this way.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain optimum coupling between an optical fiber and a light receiving element and to decrease the number of parts so as to simplify the stage for assembly by adjusting the positions of a ferrule in the optical axis direction, a ferrule holder in the direction perpendicular to the optical axis, and a 2nd lens holder within the plane perpendicular with the optical axis, respectively. CONSTITUTION:This multiplexer/dimultiplexer has a light emitting element 19, a 1st lens 21, a 1st lens holder 22, the optical fiber 24, the ferrule 26, the ferrule holder 28, an interference filter 34, the light receiving element 38, a 2nd lens holder 42, and a 2nd lens 43. A ferrule insertion hole 29 is provided to the ferrule holder 28 in order to allow the position adjustment in the optical axis direction. The end face 31 of the ferrule holder 28 and the end face23 of the 1st lens holder 22 are provided perpendicularly to the optical axis in order to allow the position adjustment in the direction perpendicular to the optical axis. The adjustment of the optical axis in the state of holding the two faces in contact with each other is thus possible. Further, the position of the 2n lens holder is adjustable on the plane parallel with the optical axis of the optical fiber 24 within a 2nd lens holder mounting part 33. A simple structure is thus formed and the assembly thereof is facilitated.

CONSTITUTION:One piece of spherical lens 24 is commonly used as the lens for condensing the exit light from the light incident/exit end face 25a of the optical fiber 25 and the lens for condensing the exit light from the light exit end face 28a of a laser diode (LD) 28. An optical multiplexer/demultiplexer holder 21 having a prescribed length is simultaneously used as the base material for supporting the optical multiplexer/demultiplexer and the positions where the light incident/exit end face 25a of the optical fiber 25 and the light exit end face 28a of the LD 28 are fixed in the optical axis direction are so set that the image magnification of the spherical lens 24 attains nearly 1. The need for optical parts such as polygonal prisms having special shapes is eliminated in this way. The reduction of the number of parts, the shortening of the optical path length and the miniaturization are contrived and the easy assembly is enabled.
