    • PURPOSE:To automatically obtain density level correction with high precision by controlling the input picture signal at constant amplitude by making shading correction to manuscript reading picture signal and controlling variable amplifier according to the maximum white density and maximum black density. CONSTITUTION:When reading the input manuscript, selection switch 22 is connected to (b) side, and correction factor is read from white reference memory 17 of correction ROM 18. This correction data is connected to variable amplifier 12 for shading correction through a D/A converter 19, and the shading correction is made between picture signal 11' of input manuscript which is amplified by pre-amplifier 11. Furthermore, by setting gain and offset values corresponding to the maximum white density and maximum black density at terminals 23, 24 when the reading of white reference is finished, D/A converters 20, 21 control the output voltage level of variable amplifier 13 and amplifier 14. Thus, even when the input picture signal 11' fluctuates according to the change of density of manuscript, it is possible to control up to the range of input voltage of an A/D converter 15.

    • PURPOSE: To attain an artificial half-tone display which is free from deterioration of the picture quality due to the deterioration of image resolution of binary pictures, by applying the picture processing repetitively to the entire areas of the 1st and 2nd picture signal memory means while shifting the 1st and 2nd scan windows by an amount equivalent to the prescribed picture elements.
      CONSTITUTION: A redistribution circuit 29 produces the conversion data from the sum total S obtained from a data addition circuit 25 and writes the conversion data successively to the address of a picture data memory 21 designated by an address control circuit 22 via a gate circuit 20. An error correction arithmetic circuit 26 selects a picture signal level P
      1 ST, i.e., the finally data converted value within a scan window out of the conversion data of the circuit 29 based on the information on the address and the timing given from a sequencing circuit 28. Then the level P
      1 ST is compared with a binary coding level V obtained from a binary coding circuit 23 to obtain the value P

      2 ND is given as an error correction amount E of the next scan window. Furthermore the result of comparison between the amount E and the level V is informed to an additional data addition circuit 27. Such a procedure is repeated to process picture signals.

    • PURPOSE:To select easily any of an adopted matrix and its transposed matrix by providing an address changeover circuit and a switch in the recording of a black-and-white picture using a dither method. CONSTITUTION:A picture signal 10 transmitted from a picture reading section 1 is outputted as a quantized picture signal 12 via a buffer 11. A row counter 3, a column counter 6 count respectively a clock signal 2 and a main scanning synchronizing signal 5 and outputs a row address signal 4 and a column address signal 7. when a switch SW18 is turned off, an address switching circuit 17 converts the signal 7 to a higher address signal 19 and the signal 4 into a lower address signal 20, and when the SW18 is turned on, the signal 4 is switched to the signal 19 and the signal 7 is to the signal 20. A storage device 8 is addressed by the signals 19, 20 and when the SW18 is turned off, the signals correspond to integral numbers m, n. An element dmn of the matrix D of k-row and k-column is taken as a threshold value 9, and when the SW18 is turned on, the element dnm of a transposed matrix D is taken as a threshold value 9 and outputted to a comparator 13. The comparator 13 records (16) the result of comparison between the threshold value 9 and the signal 12.
