    • PURPOSE:To reduce thermal distorsion and manufacturing and assembling processes by dividing a friction material of sintered alloy into a plurality of segments having the same shape and by welding them onto a steel board via a positioning means. CONSTITUTION:Raw material compound of bronze friction material is uniformly mixed, poured in a metal mold and pressed to form molded elements 1 having the same shape. The molded elements 1 are fit on a copper-plated steel board 3 in parallel arrangement so that two projections a formed in position on the back face of each of the molded elements 1 are engaged in corresponding mounting recesses 3a on the board 3, and is thereafter sintered in the non-oxidative atmosphere by the ordinary method to provide a brake pad. Smaller segments of the friction material of sintered alloy will provide lower effect of a bimetal, namely, less distorsion, but many segments are the cause for trouble of many manufacturing processes. The reasonable number of the segments is two to five. A suitable spacing between each segment may be 1 to 3 millimeters.

    • PURPOSE:To restrain the thermal distortion of a friction pad effectively at the time of production and use by selecting the joint area between a steel base plate and a frictional material piece made of sintered alloy to be 25-75% as wide as the area of the one side of the frictional material piece. CONSTITUTION:Raw material components of bronze for frictional material are uniformly mixed to fill a metal mold, and a shaped body 1 is obtained by the pressure of about 2-6ton/cm . For the frictional raw material, all bronze materials conventionally used are available. Then, after joint-preventive agent is applied or arranged on a non-joint part area 5 between a steel base plate 3 previously gilt with copper or copper alloy of about 10-20mum and the shaped body 1 on the steel base plate 3, the shaped body 1 is placed, and sintered in a non- oxidization atmosphere. The extent of the area 5 is selected so that the area of the joint part 7 between the shaped body 1 and the steel base plate 3 may be within the range of 25-75% of the whole area of the shaped body 1.
