SOLUTION: A contact point offset amount estimating part 108 estimates an offset amount x0 of a power roller caused by the displacement of a trunnion. A contact point estimating part 114 estimates a temperature of a lubricant between the power roller and an input and output disc. A necessary end load calculating part 118 by the estimation of the maximum traction coefficient, estimates the maximum traction coefficient μmax while considering the offset amount and the contact point temperature, and controls the end load to provide the maximum traction coefficient μmax with constant allowance to the use traction coefficient μ.

摘要： PURPOSE:To improve durability by fitting frictional material to first friction plates, and setting the assembling time surface roughness of the faces, brought into contact with the frictional material, of second friction plates out of at least three second friction plates to be larger than that of the second friction plate positioned at the center part. CONSTITUTION:Separator plates 2 are formed of metal plates subjected to surface hardening such as shot peening and surface roughness treatment, and the assembling time surface roughness of the faces opposed to friction plates 3 on both axial end part sides is set to the larger value than that of the one positioned at the center part. The friction plates 3 are formed by attaching frictional material to both outer peripheral faces of metal plates. With the relative rotation of the plates 2, 3, the friction face positioned at the center part wears easily, but those on both end part sides do not wear easily. The wear generated at the friction faces of the plates 2, 3 thereby progresses evenly on the whole, and the coefficient of friction between both plates 2, 3 is stabilized into the specified value to improve durability.

The grooves 138 are formed straight radially having specified intervals in the circumferential direction, and they almost reach a flange part 30A of the lockup piston 30 on the outer circumferential side 138A.

Outside the contact range, it is roughly formed in an arc form (broken line). At an adjoining part to the contact range, especially, it is formed to be smoothly changed from the non-arc form into the arc form. Reduction of roller width due to the non-arc form is thus restricted. internal stress is reduced, and diffusion of heat generated at the contact part becomes easier.

SOLUTION: Power is transmitted between a plate disc 16 and a rotor 10 in contact with the upper surface 20 of the plate disc 16. The side surface 14 of the roller in contact with the upper surface 20 of the disc is set to a shape expressed by the following expression: [Mathematical Expression 15] z=a.sinh (bx2). This shape can make the distribution of the contact stress uniform within the range of approximately 80% in the width direction of the contact region. This shape prevents the formation of a stress peak in an end part and smoothly reduces the stress distribution toward the end.
