    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To balance heat resistance, such as fade resistance, with anti-squeal performance in a friction material. SOLUTION: This friction material 10 includes a resin binding material 1 and carbonization granulated substances 2 dispersed and maintained in the resin binding material 1. The carbonization granulated substances 2 are carbonized products obtained by carbonizing a granulated substance containing a fibrous substrate, the resin binding material, and at least one filler. Since the carbonization granulated substances 2 contains no organic matters such as resin binding materials, the contents of organic matters such as resin binding materials are greatly reduced in the friction material to greatly improve the heat resistance such as fade resistance in comparison with the conventional friction material in which the granulated substance containing the resin binding material is dispersed and maintained. Since the resin binding material 1 is filled between the carbonization granulated substances 2, a spring constant in the friction material is lowered to improve the anti-squeal performance in comparison with the conventional friction material using a carbonized organic material as a binding material.     • PURPOSE:To reduce generation of squeak by a brake pad vibrating as a rigid body. CONSTITUTION:A contacting member drive cylinder 82 is provided opposite to the end part of a leading side of a back plate 20 of a vehicle moving forward and a piston rod 104 is made to come in contact with the back plate 20 by transmitting master cylinder pressure to the fluid pressure chamber 108, while supply of brake fluid to the fluid pressure chamber 108 is cut off by providing a cutoff valve 112, and the fluid pressure in the fluid pressure chamber 108 is maintained to the height of the piston rod 104 contacting the back plate 20 with a force of 49N (5kgf). The piston rod 104 is in a non-braking position when brake is not applied but moves forward and contacts the back plate 20 when braking, restrains vibration and reduces noise by regulating the movement of the end part of the leading side of the back plate 20. The contacting member may be contacted with the back plate by a device using an electric motor as its drive power source, or the vibration may be restrained by friction by making the contacting member coming in contact with the side surface at a right angle to the friction surface of the back plate.

    • PURPOSE:To suppress the temperature of a brake surface to a low value and to generate the proper brake power of a drum brake by forming an heat insulating layer on the inner peripheral surface of a drum part. CONSTITUTION:A drum-in-disc rotor 10 comprises an annular disc part 11 having a given width; and a cylindrical drum part 12 with a given diameter arranged on the inner periphery thereof. A lining shoe 24 for a drum brake is disposed on the inner peripheral side of the drum part 12. A parking brake consists of a drum brake, through operation of the parking brake, a lining shoe 24 is spread, a shoe lining 24a is brought into pressure contact with the inner peripheral surface of the drum part 12 and brake torque is exerted on the drum part 12. Further, a heat insulating layer 14 is formed on the inner peripheral surface of the drum part 12. The heat insulating layer 14 is a flame-spray layer and has low thermal conductivity and the more the heat insulating layer is thick, the more a temperature increase suppression effect is improved. In composition of the heat insulating layer 14, the friction factor of a brake surface is increased by using a rigid particle-form component and brake torque of the drum brake is increased.

CONSTITUTION:A main body 12 of a disc rotor 10 is cast by gray cast iron, and a heat-insulating layer 22 composed of chromium oxide is formed on both side faces of flange portion 16. A thermal conductive layer 24 composed of chrome, carbon and copper is formed on the heat insulating layer 22 by plasma flame spraying and finished by grinding. Accordingly, the frictional heat generated on friction surfaces 26, 28 is intercepted by the heat insulating layer 22, so that as the frictional heat is hardly transmitted to the main body, a temperature rise of the main body 12 is small so as to decrease partial temperature difference depending on the existence/absence of a vent hole 20 and to reduce the occurrence of a heat spot.
