    • PURPOSE:To surely track a target by producing a thinned image through the band limitation of an image, calculating the change components and integrating these change components in both horizontal and vertical directions. CONSTITUTION:The image signal TV1 photographed by a TV camera 10 is digitized by a filter 11 and undergoes the band limitation through an LPF. Then the signal TV1 is thinned and stored in a field memory 12. When a prescribed image is stored in the memory 12, a microcomputer 14 extracts the change components of pixels out of a thinned image which is delayed by a prescribed time or stored and a thinned image received from the filter 11. These change components are integrated in both horizontal and vertical directions for calculation of the centroid of each change component. Then the photographing position of the camera 10 is controlled based on the calculated centroid of each change component so that a target moving within a screen is set at the center of the screen. Thus it is possible to prevent the malfunctions of the target caused by the noises, the movements of other objects in the screen and the control of a motor.

    • PURPOSE:To surely track a target even when another object of a similar color to that of the target exists or the illumination varies by detecting continuously the position of the target based on the information on the difference of chroma saturation signals, the distance of objects, the motions of objects, etc. CONSTITUTION:The color image signal TV1 photographed by a TV camera 10 is decimated after undergoing the band limitation through an LPF of a filter/converter block 11. Thus the luminance, hue and chroma saturation are acquired and independently stored in an image memory 12. A microcomputer 14 produces an estimated luminance function based on the luminance and chroma saturation signals of the feature color of a target object specified by a hue histogram included in a marked area after an image is stored in the memory 12. Then the candidate pixcels of the target object are discriminated and a difference is calculated from the estimated value. The threshold value is adaptively changed into the binary data, and the position of the target object is decided. Thus it is possible to improve the target tracking performance and also to track a target despite the change of illumination.
