    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus configured to obtain high durability without increasing a load on a charging means by a relatively simple control operation.
      SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with: an image carrier 20, and a charging means 30 capable of uniformly charging the image carrier 20 in a state of in contact with or being close to the image carrier 20. The apparatus includes a means 50 which visualizes the electrostatic latent image formed on the uniformly charged image carrier 20 by a developing device, and transfers the toner image formed as the visible image to an object to be transferred and then the toner remaining on the surface of the image carrier is removed by a cleaning device; and a means 80 for supplying a lubricant to the image carrier. The charging means 30 includes a counter 91 for counting the number of image formations or turning times of the image carrier, and is connected to a control means 90 for controlling the ratio of the AC voltage values applied during image formation and during non-image formation.
