    • PURPOSE: To melt and manufacture a dead low steel sulfide at a low cost by removing a converter slag on a molten steel, and thereafter, adding a desulfurizing flux onto the molten steel, and arc-heating the molten steel.
      CONSTITUTION: A molten steel is discharged to a ladle from a converter, the ladle is carried into a slag removing equipment, and a converter slag on the molten steel is removed. It is desirable that this slag removal is executed by a vacuum absorbing method. After the slag has been removed, a desulfurizing flux is thrown into the ladle, an electrode and a stirring gas leading-in lance are made to descend on the molten steel, a cover is put on the ladle, and the molten steel is put into an Ar gas atmosphere by leading in an inert gas of an Ar gas, etc. Also, an arc is formed at a prescribed arc gap between the electrode and the molten steel. As a result, the molten steel is heated, also the flux is slagged, and a slag layer which is optimum for desulfurization is formed on the molten steel. At the same time, when the molten steel is stirred weakly by leading in an Ar gas, the slag and the molten steel react effectively, and a dead low steel sulfide whose S density is ≤about 5ppm is obtained.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of the crack in the covering refractories of a lance for stirring a molten metal and to extend the life of the lance in the stage of using said lance by heat-insulating or heating the lance after the treatment. CONSTITUTION:A molten metal is stirred and refined by using a lance 3 for stirring a molten metal consisting of a metallic pipe 7 having a gas passage hole 7' and refractories 8 covering the outside circumference thereof. The lance 3 drawn into the atmosphere after the treatment is housed into a heat insulating vessel 10. The vessel 10 consists of a shell 11 and a heat insulating material 12 and is provided with a burner 15 for heating. The lance 3 is thus insulated in terms of heat and if necessary the lance is heated to prevent the decrease in the surface temp. of the lance 3 and to decrease the temp. difference between the inside and outside surface of the refractories 8, by which the generation of the crack and stripping in the refractories 8 is prevented and the service life of the lance 3 is extened.
