    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a negative electrode material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery of alloy system having a high discharge capacity and superior cycle characteristics.
      SOLUTION: (a) A first material which contains Co and Sn with a content of Sn 70-80 mass% is dissolved and quenched to solidify and an alloy material A consisting of an admixture of intermetallic compounds having CoSn and CoSn
      2 as a main body is prepared, (b) a second material which contains Co, Ti, and Sn with an atomic ratio of Co:Ti:Sn=(1-1.5):1:1 is dissolved and quenched to solidify and an alloy material B consisting of an intermetallic compound Co
      x Ti
      y Sn (x=1-1.5, y=0.95-1.05) is prepared, (c) the alloy material A and the alloy material B are mixed with a ratio so that a mass ratio may be A:B=70:30-95:5, and are pulverized preferably by a mechanical grinding treatment. This negative electrode material contains CoSn: CoSn
