    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure homogenous thickness distribution and to obtain a metal plate excellent in quality by providing a grinding instructing device for sending the instruction of grinding to a grinding device at the point of time when at least one of the measured value and estimated value of the profile of a work roll reaches an arbitrary value. SOLUTION: A rolling stand 5 is provided with a pair of the work rolls 2 and a pair of back-up rolls 3, the work rolls 2 are composed so as to be respectively movable in the axial direction and grinding devices 6 with which the surfaces of the work rolls 2 can be ground are provided. The grinding device 6 is movable in the axial direction on a base 7 for moving and, by moving in the axial direction and bringing into contact with the surface of the work roll 2, in the non-contact region of the work roll 2 on the outside of the width on the barrel of the work roll 2, to region where is brought into contact with the metal plate at least in the rolling on and after that, or the region on the outside of that and furthermore the whole region, can grind. The work rolls 2 are moved oppositely each other in the axial direction. In this way, a gentle worn profile similar to a thermal expansion profile on which end-part peak wear is not generated is obtained.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rolling method with high reliability by installing a pair of intermediate rolls and back-up rolls in a twisted position each other, installing axes of the intermediate roll and the back-up roll in an upper roll group and a lower roll group in parallel with each other, inclining an axis of work rolls in a pair and the axes of the intermediate roll and the back-up roll in opposite directions each other on a horizontal plane, and supplying one of the surfaces of the rolls with lubricant. SOLUTION: Axial thrust force is produced on the contact surface between intermediate rolls 3a, 3b and work rolls 2a, 2b by crossing the work rolls 2a, 2b. However, the thrust force is reduced because lubricant sprayed on the roll surfaces of the intermediate rolls 3a, 3b with a lubricant feeder is adhered to each surface of the intermediate rolls 3a, 3b, back-up rolls 4a, 4b and, the work rolls 2a, 2b, and supplied to the contact surfaces between the work rolls 2a, 2b and the intermediate rolls 3a, 3b by contact between the rolls.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To uniformize cooling in the vertical direction and the temperature distribution in the width direction of a strip by providing with an opening pad having a slit nozzle for cooling the lower part of the strip and setting the gap between the lower surface of the strop and the pad in accordance with the dimension of the slit nozzle. SOLUTION: A laminar flow cooling system is used for the upper part of the strip stock 1, a laminar flow water is made to flow downward from a laminar flow pipe 7a, and the liquid film H is more widely spread in the longitudinal direction in the downstream side than the upstream side because of the strip stock 1 moving at a high speed. An opening pad cooling system is used in the lower part of the strip stock 1, a lower part opening pad mechanism 5 is arranged between two guide rolls 9, and the cooling water is fed from a cooling header 15a via a water feeding duct 10a. The cooling water is fully filled within a cooling water gap 16 from the nozzle mechanism 5a and made to flow in the vertical direction of the strip stock, and drained to a cooling water pit from a drain pipe 11b via a drain duct 11a. By this way, cooling is promoted with the direct contact between the sprayed water and the strip, and the temperature distribution in the vertical direction and width direction of the strip stock is uniformized.

The temp. and the shape of the rolled strip 1 are detected with detectors 8a, 8b arranged at the inlet side and the outlet side of this cooling device and these distributing informations in the width direction of the strip are transferred to a computing element 5 and the correcting values for uniformizing the temp. are set with a correcting computing element 6 and transferred to control devices 7. The control device 7 controls the output, frequency, amplitude, etc., in the ultrasonic generating mechanism 4 based on these values, and film boiling of the rolled strip 1 is collapsed, and the temp. distribution in the width direction of the rolled strip 1 is uniformized and the cooling velocity is improved.
