摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for starting operation of a twin torch type plasma melting furnace, which enables starting of operation on plasma melting in a stable condition. SOLUTION: An initial ignition operation is performed in a single mode in which an anode electrode 5 is permitted to contact a melt, and a plasma arc is generated between a cathode electrode 4 and the melt. At the same time, with the instructions from a polarity switch command part 15, positive voltage is impressed on the cathode electrode 4, which is disposed at a slag outlet, to permit the electrode to serve as an instant anode electrode for starting melting. When the instant anode electrode has descended during conversion to a twin mode, the polarity of voltage being impressed on both of the electrodes 4, 5, is switched to a proper one.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the need of a heat resistant powdery dust discharger by disposing a secondary combustion chamber and a secondary combustion burner, respectively, on the upper side and at the lower part in a secondary burner communicating with an exhaust gas discharging part on the furnace body side and forming a vertical powdery dust discharging chamber on the lower side of the communicating section. SOLUTION: Combustion ash discharged from an incinerator is thermally fused in a melting furnace body 20 and exhaust gas containing carbon monoxide flows from an exhaust gas discharging part 27 into a secondary combustion chamber 43 where it is burnt by means of a secondary combustion burner 45. Since the burner 45 is disposed orthogonally to the direction of exhaust gas flow, the burner flame reaches the corners on the cross-section of the secondary combustion chamber 43 and unburnt carbon monoxide is burnt perfectly. Since the lower end part of a powdery dust discharging chamber 44 is separated sufficiently for avoiding direct action of radiation heat from the flame of the burner 45, and a powdery dust discharging unit 60 is disposed at the lower end part, a heat resistant powdery dust discharging unit 60 is not required.

摘要： PURPOSE: To detect a surface level of a base metal with accuracy by allowing a detec tion material to fall and be placed in contact with the surface of molten slag to be held at a definite level and detecting differential potentiality between this detection material and the base metal so as to detect the thickness of the molten slag. CONSTITUTION: A base metal level detection device 31 is employed. A detection electrode 32, which is a detection member, is installed to a furnace main body 1 so that it may rise and fall freely with a lift device 33. The detection electrode 32 is dropped and placed into contact with the surface of the molten slag Sf which is extracted from a slag extraction opening 3 and discharged and held at a definite level. The differential potentiality between the detection electrode 32 and a base metal M is detected so that the thickness of a molten slag layer Sf may be detected. Furthermore, since the surface of the molten slag Sf is held at a definite level from the slag extraction opening 3, the surface level of M1 of the base metal can be determined with accuracy. It is, therefore, possible to discharge the base metal M at a proper time and prevent the generation of useless shut down time and protect the quality of granulated slag from being degraded.

摘要： PURPOSE: To make it possible to maintain the generation of plasma on an anode side when starting the operation of a furnace and prevent the temperature at the tip of an electrode of an anode torch from rising higher than that of a cathode torch by placing the graphite-made cathode torch at a higher position than a melting chamber and bringing the lower end of the anode torch into contact with a conductor at the bottom of the melting chamber. CONSTITUTION: A plasma melting chamber forms a melting chamber 1a inside where a base metal 2 (conductor) is laid out at the bottom of the melting chamber 1a. A graphite-made anode torch 3 and a graphite cathode torch 4 are laid out in the upper part of the melting chamber 1a of this furnace melting main body 1. In case when starting a plasma type melting furnace, plasma operation gas B or more specifically nitrogen gas is supplied into the melting chamber 1a where the concentration of oxygen is specified to be 2% and below. Both electrode torches 3 and 4 are adapted to drop respectively and placed into contact with the base metal 2. Then, melting power is supplied to the electrode torches 3 and 4 from an electrode 5 and the cathode electrode torch 4 is raised upward, say, about 5 to 10mm above the base metal 2 from the electrode 5, thereby generating plasma arc between the base metal 2 and the cathode torch 4.
