    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a servo signal recording apparatus which writes a servo signal to conduct a tracking servo at high speed and very accurately, onto a magnetic tape.
      SOLUTION: The apparatus is provided with: a tape fluctuation measuring portion 5 which measures a position fluctuation in a width direction of the magnetic tape 3 and outputs a tape fluctuation information; a signal processor 20 which generates the servo signal including the tape fluctuation information to be outputted from the tape fluctuation measuring portion 5; and a servo signal recording head 4 which records the servo signal generated in the signal processor 20 onto the magnetic tape 3. Prior to a timing when the servo signal is recorded in a prescribed position of the magnetic tape 3 by the servo signal recording head 4, the tape fluctuation measuring portion 5 measures the tape fluctuation in the prescribed position and records the servo signal including the tape fluctuation information.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head tracking servo method which allows a magnetic head to quickly and accurately follow a recording track, even when a recording track width is narrowed and the tape speed is increased.
      SOLUTION: A magnetic tape cartridge 23 is used which comprises a cartridge 20 and a magnetic tape 21 and in which LTM frequency information obtained by frequency conversion of tape variance information being information of variations of positions in a magnetic tape width direction with respect to respective positions in a lengthwise direction of the magnetic tape 21 preliminarily obtained by measurement is recorded, and the LTM frequency information is read out from the magnetic tape cartridge 23, and a servo signal recorded in a servo track is read out by the magnetic head, and information of a head position relative to the magnetic tape 21 is extracted to calculate an off-track amount, and control data of the magnetic head is calculated from the LTM frequency information and the off-track amount, and the magnetic head is moved in the width direction of the magnetic tape on the basis of the calculated control data.

    • PURPOSE:To efficiently and uniformly finish working the surface of a magnetic tape by vibrating the edge of an impulse member at a preset and prescribed vibrating frequency and impulse contacting the surface of a magnetic tape which generates dropouts. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a tape 4 is finished by impulse contacting and running it over an edge 18 of an impulse member 17 consisting of the adjacent surface which contacts the tape within the angle of larger than zero and less than 180 degrees. Prior to the tape 4 contacting the edge 18 of the member 17, a recording and a reproducing are performed by impulse contacting a recording head 10 and a reproducing head 11 to the tape 4 successively so as to detect the size of the dropout of the reproduced signals from the reproducing head 11. In accordance with the size of the dropout, the edge 18 of the member 17 is vibrated with a prescribed vibrating frequency, the edge is impulse contacted to the surface of the tape 4 on which a dropout is generated, a projection or a foreign object located on the surface of the tape 4 are efficiently eliminated and re-adhesion of these removed foreign objects to the surface of the tape 4 is prevented.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain an excellent output regardless of the thickness of a magnetic tape by controlling the tension of the tape so that a value obtained by subtracting the tape thickness from the position on the back face of the magnetic tape can be within a set range. CONSTITUTION:Displacement obtained by subtracting the thickness of a magnetic tape 4 from the position on the back face of the tape is stored in a controller CR22 so that the displacement can be within the preset range, and when the displacement becomes outside the preset range, an adjusting lever 23 connected to the CR22 is oscillated. The lever 23 is connected with a brake band 24 the base end of which is fixed and wound with a supply roll 5 via a spring 25, and by oscillating the lever with the instruction of the CR22, the tension of the tape 4 can be increased or decreased to adjust the tension. Even when the thickness of the tape 4 is different, the position on the back face is detected with a photosensor 21, the tension in the running is adjusted so that the displacement on the back face can be within the set range and spacing loss can be prevented from occurring between the tape 4 and a recording and reproducing head 2 near the contact with the head 2, and thus, the excellent and stabilized reproducing output can be obtained all time.
