    • PURPOSE:To perform compression/expansion processings for various application functions of a composite terminal equipment while keeping a processing speed higher than a certain level by setting the code value related to a single compression/expansion processing based on the code value of image data equivalent to a single page. CONSTITUTION:A composite terminal equipment 31 calculates the code value based on the image data equivalent to a single page when plural image data are compressed and expanded in conflict by various application functions such as a G3/G4 communication function, a scanner function, a printer function. Then the number of codes to be compressed and expanded at one time is set at the desirable value based on the calculated code value. Thus the codes are compressed and expanded based on the set code value. Therefore it is possible to complete the compression and expansion of codes within a time and without affecting the control of communication and also to set the resources of a compressing/expanding part 29 at a releasable level as a system to perform the compression/expansion processings for various application functions while keeping a processing speed higher than a fixed level.

    • PURPOSE: To provide a method and device for adaptively predicting and deciding the generation capability of each mark of a finite alphabet in a mark string. CONSTITUTION: Plural sections are defined across one part of a mark string. When continuous new marks are added to the string, they are inputted to the sections, and on the other hand, the old marks are outputted from the sections. Capability corresponding to each mark of an alphabet is held and updated by the following process. Whether or not the new mark is the arbitrary character of the alphabet, and whether or not each old mark drifting away from the sections is the arbitrary character is decided corresponding to each new mark inputted to the sections. Therefore, the number of times of the generation of the arbitrary characters in each section can be changed. A capability update value is decided, and this has capability elements from those sections decided according as whether or not the number of times of the generation of the arbitrary characters in each section is changed. Preferably, the update value is a binary number having a bit position corresponding to each section. The generation capability of the arbitrary marks is updated by using the capability update value.

The equipment 10 generates statistic data relating to the compression efficiency and updates the compression rule data with a updating means 14 based on the statistic data and informs the new compression rule data to the means 11 and the reception means 12.     • PURPOSE:To improve the data transfer efficiency by compressing and expanding the data to be transferred even when the 1st and 2nd special codes are included in these data and restoring the original data in order to use the data via not only a non-transmissive transmission line but a transmissive transmission line. CONSTITUTION:In a concentration/allotment communication network, a user A of a host station 10 like a center station, a repeater station, etc., informs a user B of a terminal station 11 of the data X on a setting definition value table necessary for the monitor control. Each of both stations 10 and 11 contains a compression means 12 and an expansion means 13 respectively. If the data to be transferred included a 1st special code, a 2nd special code is added to the data. Then the data are compressed. If these compressed data include the 1st special code and added with the 2nd special code, this added code is deleted. Meanwhile the data are expanded if the 2nd code is not added. Therefore the original data can be restored when the data to be transferred are compressed and expanded even when these data include both special codes.
