    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable printing machine capable of exchanging a printing plate of one printing unit in a short time during a printing operation.SOLUTION: A blanket cylinder 12 of each of a plurality of printing units 4a-4d can be moved between a printing position which enables printing by coming into rolling contact with a printing cylinder 11 and an impression cylinder 13 and a release position having a clearance, by separation, which is formed between the impression cylinder 13 and the blanket cylinder 12 and in which paper 2 can travel. The blanket cylinder 12 of the printing unit of which printing plate is exchanged is located at the release position and the blanket cylinders 12 of the other printing units are located at the printing position. Thus the printing plate of one printing unit can be exchanged in a short time during a printing operation.
