    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic timepiece capable of surely detecting hand positions and reducing the size. SOLUTION: A radio controlled timepiece as an electronic timepiece includes the fifth wheel 271 and the third wheel 272 gearing with a rotor pinion 261A and is made to detect hand positions of hour and minute hands by using detection holes 271A, 272A, 273A, 222A, 275A provided to the second wheel 273, the fourth wheel 222 and a scoop wheel 275. Therefore, even if a hour and minute hand motor 26 continuously ticks steps, there is no fear that detection holes particularly 271A and 272A continue to overlap with each other at the fifth wheel 271 and the third wheel 272 having a large rotation angle, and so detection accuracy can be improved. Also, the fifth wheel 271 and the third wheel 272 are arranged with concentration in a position overlapping in a plane on the middle second wheel 273, and so the space efficiency can be made good and expansion of the layout of a gear train 27 for hour and minute hands in radial direction is suppressed and reduction in size can be promoted.
