摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device that has high utilization efficiency of light, that can display a bright video, and that has no color turbidity in an image.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device comprises: a liquid crystal display panel 15 provided with a liquid crystal cell 12 between a first polarization plate 13 and a second polarization plate 14; and a surface light source unit 20 for lighting the liquid crystal display panel 15. The surface light source unit 20 includes: a light source part 10; and a light guide plate 21 that makes light from the light source part 10 incident from a light incidence surface facing the light source part and that emits polarization light having a maximum strength of directivity in a first direction forming a predetermined angle from a normal direction of a light emitting surface. The second polarization plate 14 includes: a polarization light part 14a containing an absorption type polarizer; and a prism part 14b arranged on a light guide plate side of the polarization light part 14a and arranged with a plurality of columnar unit prisms forming convex shapes on the light guide plate side. Polarization light emitted from the light guide plate 21 has a ratio La/Lt, of an integrated intensity La of emitted light in a range of a polar angle of 50°-80° and an azimuth angle of 135°-225° and in a range of the polar angle of 0°-45° and the azimuth angle of 315°-360° to an integrated intensity La of the whole emitted light, which is 0.3 or more.
