摘要： PURPOSE: To efficiently remove scales and shorten washing time by a method wherein when hardness of city water to be fed to an electrolytic cell is detected to remove the scales, the time over which voltage of opposite polarity is applied between electrode plates is increased or decreased corresponding to the hardness of city water. CONSTITUTION: In an electrolytic cell, an electrode plate 98 and an electrode plate 102, on both sides, and a central electrode plate 100 are alternated, a spacer 104 being interposed between the adjacent plates, and are located in a recess of a pressure case 96, and a cover 106 is fixed to the case 96. For example, in an alkali water producing mode, voltage is applied to each terminal 108 so that the plates 98, 102 on the opposite sides serve as anodes and the plate 100 serves as a cathode, while city water is being fed to the electrolytic cell. On the other hand, when voltage of opposite polarity is applied, scales deposited on each of the plates 98, 100, 102 are removed. In this case, hardness of city water is detected. As a result, in order to remove the scales, the time over which voltage of opposite polarity is applied is increased or decreased corresponding to the hardness of city water.
