    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing device which can stably carry a desired amount of developer on the surface of a developer carrier and suppress variation in image density even if the developing device is driven for a long time.SOLUTION: There is provided a developing device which comprises: a developer carrier 42 which conveys a developer to a developing area facing a latent image carrier 2 to supply the developer to the latent image carrier 2 by rotating the developer carrier in a state where the developer is carried on the surface of regular recesses and protrusions 42a and 42b; a regulating member 45 which comes into contact with the surface of the rotating develop@er carrier to regulate the amount of the developer toward the developing area; and development bias applying means 142 for applying an alternating voltage to the developer carrier 42. The alternating voltage is obtained by superimposing a DC bias and an AC bias, the development bias applying means 142 increases the DC bias value and reduces the amplitude of the AC bias according to the driving time of the developing device.
