    • PURPOSE:To displace relative positions of a magnetic head and a magnetic tape to not only reduce wear of the magnetic head and the magnetic tape but also relax the attraction phenomenon between the magnetic head and the magnetic tape, by providing a displacement giving means which displaces the magnetic head, etc. CONSTITUTION:When a trigger signal (b) which is generated for recording or reproducing and indicates start of the magnetic tape is received, a displacement signal generating circuit 15 sends the second displacement signal (d) to a plunger 14. The plunger 14 drives a magnetic head 11 from the first position 16 to the second position 17 on a basis of the second displacement signal (d) so that the gap part of the magnetic head 11 is displaced to a minimum spacing position to the magnetic tape. Thus, the gap part of the magnetic head 11 is displaced to the minimum spacing position to the magnetic tape 13, and wear which is generated conventionally at a magnetic tape start time is not generated, and wear for magnetic tape start of the gap part of the magnetic head 11 and the magnetic tape 13 is avoided.

    • PURPOSE:To attain reproduction with fidelity even at simultaneous recording/reproduction by joining both magnetic shield layers together at a position parted by prescribed length from a magnetoresistance effect element in its reproducing broadwise direction to decrease remarkably a cross-field noise. CONSTITUTION:A both-sided shield type magnetoresistance effect head enclosing a magnetoresistance effect element 23 is constituted of the 1st magnetic shield layer 21 and the 2nd magnetic shield layer 24. A part of leakage magnetic flux from a recording head passes also in this case through the 2nd magnetic shield layer 24 from the 1st magnetic shield layer 21. Most of the leakage magnetic flux, however, passes through the 2nd magnetic shield layer 24 via a magnetic shield joining part 28 from the 1st shield layer 21 and the leakage magnetic flux from the recording head passing through the insulation layer 22 is very less. Thus, the leakage magnetic flux from the recording head passing through a magnetic gap 27 in the insulation layer 22 is very less thereby reducing remarkably the cross field noise generated in a loop comprising a left conductor 25, the magnetoresistance effect element 23 and a right-side lead part 26 due to electromagnetic induction.
