    • PURPOSE:To create a comfortable environment in the chamber and improve working efficiency by connecting the electric power source, sealing gas supply mechanism, control and supervisory mechanism provided to a support ship and the welding mechanism in the chamber lowered into water by means of cables. CONSTITUTION:A guide wire is connected to the welding position of submarine pipes 2 from a support ship and a chamber 10 is lowered. An operator 34 enters the inside of the chamber 10, fixes the pipes 2 thence he makes preparation for welding work by controlling the environmental gas in the chamber with an instrument control panel 42. Even if the air pressure in the chamber 10 fluctuates, the inside and outside of the case body of a wire feeder 41 are uniformly maintained by a pressure equalizing device. Thence, the operator welds the pipes 2 by a water cooled MIG welding method or the like while making communication with a control room 28. During this time, the welding conditions, the operator's safety, etc. are checked with a television camera 38 and are communicated with a microphone 39. The refilling of the environmental gas and its pressure regulation during the work are accomplished by the control room 28 of the support ship or the control panel 42 in the chamber 10.

    • PURPOSE:To precisely and automatically weld the weld line having rugged defor- mations and curvature biased parts by opposing the end of a welding head to the weld line according to the detection signals of vertical and longitudinal displacement detecting mechanisms and curvature biasing detecting mechanism. CONSTITUTION:In the case of welding the weld line 9 where the convex face 36 at the work 8 and the top surface of a lower frame 7 join, a welding head 5 is maintained of its height by a vertical displacement detecting mechanism 14 and is set of the position in the longitudinal direction by the rolling contact roller 39 of a longitudinal displacement detecting mechanism 35 rollably contacted with the surface of the convex face 36. The head performs welding of the line 9 while it is prevented from swivelling by the detecting roller 27 of a curvatue biasing detecting mechanism 23 rollably contacted with the convex face 36 surface. The swivelling driving mechanism 28 and longitudinal driving mechansim 40 detecting the relative displacement of one of the rollrs 27 of the mechanism 23 and the displacement of the roller 39 of the mechanism 35 operate to cause the welding head to respond to the curvatures, thereby performing welding. In this case, the travelling speed of a carriage 1 is deceleratively controlled by sending the signal from the mechanism 23 to the driving mechanism 2.

    • PURPOSE:To realize faultless TIG welding even in a narrow groove by completely shielding the atmosphere, by providing side shield nozzles having gas injection holes opened in three directions in the torch main body, and fitting a slidable ring gas tube with skirt externally thereto. CONSTITUTION:A torch main body 1 and side shield nozzles 4, 4 are positioned in the narrow groove of the work, and a welding machine is so set that the inner face of a skirt 14 in the lower part of ring gas tube 11 may abut against the upper face of the work, and is moved along the groove. In this case, the inert gas flow from a ring gas passage 3 is injected so as to envelope the welding position and the surrounding thereof. Further, an inert gas curtain is formed on the outer circumference side of the torch main body by the gas flows from gas injection holes 8-10 in the nozzle opened in the directions of the main body, both sides, and downwards of the torch main body. Besides, since the skirt 14 covers the outer circumference side of the nozzle, the atmosphere may be discharged and cut off completely.
