    • PURPOSE: To prepare a desulfurizing agent high in adsorbing performance economically by a method wherein the surfaces of coal are oxidized by combustion gases in a carbonizing step for coal, when preparing the desulfurizing agent used for a dry type exhaust-gas desulfurizer from coal.
      CONSTITUTION: When preparing the desulfurizing agent used in a dry type desulfurizing process for removing sulfur oxides in combustion exhaust gases by the carbonization and activation of coal, a part of combustion gases is contacted to coal before or after the carbonizing step so as to oxidize the surfaces of the coal or the carbonized coal, followed by activation. By such a treatment, oxides are formed on the surfaces of the coal or the carbonized coal, whereby the succeeding activation reaction is facilitated and development of pores is accelerated. Accordingly, a desulfurizing agent having high adsorbing performance can be prepared at low cost.

      2 -adsorbing ability when subjected to repeated adsorption and desorption, by regulating the initial SO
      2 -adsorbing power when preparing a desulfurizing agent used for a dry type exhaust-gas desulfurizer from coal.
      CONSTITUTION: When preparing the desulfurizer used in a dry type desulfurizing method for the adsorption removal of sulfur oxides in combustion exhaust gases by dry distillation and activation of coal, the process of dry distillation and activation is so controlled that the initial SO
      2 -adsorbing power of the desulfurizing agent will be not higher than 16g.SO
      2 /100g.desulfurizing agnet. The thus prepared desulfurizing agent shows no degradation of SO
      2 -adsorbing ability when subjected to repeated adsorption and desorption, therefore it can be used for a long period of time, while being provided with high mechanical strength.
