    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption of a display apparatus using a cold polysilicon TFT liquid crystal panel to which RGB time-sharing drive is introduced.
SOLUTION: In the display apparatus of the RGB time-sharing drive method which inputs RGB data for supplying three colors of RGB to display pixels to the liquid crystal panel in time-sharing manner, (1) the data are input to the liquid crystal panel in order of RGB and BGR in each one line signal, and in a break of one line period, a selection signal SC in the ON state is held as it is up to the next line period. Also, (2) in partial display, selection signals SA, SB, SC are always held in the OFF state for a partial non-display period, and an equalizer signal EQG is held in the ON state. Thus, an operation frequency of the selection signals SA, SC to select RGB data can be lowered substantially, and the low power consumption is attained.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a flicker appearing on the entire surface by providing a liquid crystal panel with a plurality of dummy pixels.
SOLUTION: The plurality of dummy pixels 21 are formed outside a display area 14 on a TFT array substrate 1, and a photodiode 31 is provided in each dummy pixel 21. Cathode sides of all photodiodes are connected to one storage capacitor Cp. When the storage capacitor Cp is precharged and then all the photodiodes are exposed, precharged electric charges leak through the respective photodiodes. The voltage across the storage capacitor Cp is measured a specified time later, and then the total amount of currents flowing through all the photodiodes is known. The total amount of the currents, i.e. the voltage drop across the storage capacitor Cp is proportional to a mean photodetection quantity of all the photodiodes and detected to know mean luminance of the entire surface of the display area 14. Mean luminances when a positive voltage is applied to a liquid crystal element 32 of a dummy pixel 21 and a negative voltage is applied are compared with each other to detect flicker intensity.
