CONSTITUTION: The reflection type liquid crystal display device consists of a first substrate 1 and a second substrate 2 facing each other to hold a liquid crystal layer 8 in between. A first transparent electrode 4 and a first oriented film 6 are formed don the liquid crystal layer side of the first substrate 1. A color filter layer 9 covered with a flattening layer 10, second transparent electrode 5, and second oriented film 7 are successively formed on the liquid crystal layer side of the second substrate 2. A polarizing plate 3 is disposed on the incident light side (outer surface) of the first substrate 1, and a reflecting plate 11 is disposed between the second substrate 2 and the color filter layer 9 covered with the flattening layer 10. By this method, the transmission optical length of the incident light and reflected light can be decreased and the distance Δd' between the incident position of the incident light and the outgoing position of the reflected light is reduced so that the incident light and reflected light can transmit through a same pixel and a same color filter layer 10.

When one of two electrodes adjacent to each other and the other are defined as first and second electrodes for display, respectively, the number of combinations of the two adjacent electrodes satisfying the condition that the length of a first part connected to a first oblique straight line wire connected to the first electrode for display and the length of a second part connected to a second oblique straight line wire connected to the second electrode for display are different from each other and first and second oblique straight line wires are nearly parallel to each other in the region on the inner side of the sealing material 52, is larger than the number of the combinations which do not satisfy the condition among the parts connected to the oblique straight line wires 1 1 to 1 8 and parallel to the terminals 3 1 to 3 8 .     • PURPOSE: To simplify a scanning electrode driving means by providing specific voltage generating means, voltage switching means and signal voltage conversion means, respectively. CONSTITUTION: The voltage generating means 11 forms two kinds of operating voltages i.e., first and second voltage sources in accordance with a positive driving voltage and a negative driving voltage in the scanning electrode driving means 103. The voltage switching means 12 supplies by switching the first or second voltage source corresponding to an AC forming signal 4. The scanning electrode driving means 103 is operated setting the first or second voltage source supplied from the voltage switching means 12 as the operating voltage. The signal voltage conversion means 13 receives the output voltage of the voltage switching means 12, and converts a row clock signal 106 supplied from the outside to the row clock signal of level corresponding to the output voltage, and supplies it to the scanning electrode driving means 103. In this way, since only the operating voltage corresponding to the positive and negative driving voltages is applied to the scanning electrode driving means 103, its breakdown strength can be saved to the half of the amplitude of an actual driving voltage applied to a scanning electrode.
