The multicolor thermal transfer printer includes: a platen warming means warming the platen 12; and a warming control means performing warming control of the platen 12 before printing of the respective color inks is started. Thermal energy at a level preventing transfer of ink to non-printing parts 43 which are positioned before a printing start end 42 of a printing part 41 of the master roll to be printed and after a printing terminal 42a of the printing part 41 is applied to the heating elements 36 of the thermal head 13 by application of electricity.
