摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To fast extract a necessary retrieval item number by optimizing the size of an area to be retrieved next based on the 1st retrieval frequency. SOLUTION: A spot near the facility whose information is retrieved is designated by means of an information terminal, and an access is given to a data base to retrieve the facility. The coordinates of the retrieval spot are defined as X0 and YO with an area to be retrieved in default defined as S. The 1st retrieval is carried out within a range of the area S, and the number of facilities retrieved within the area S is defined as N1. When N1>=N is satisfied, the retrieval is finished and N items near the coordinates X0 and YO are extracted. Then the facility information on N items are downloaded. When N>N1>0 is satisfied, the size of the area S is increased up to an area S1 in proportion to the value of N1. Then a 2nd retrieval is carried out within the range of the area S1. The number of facilities retrieved in the area S1 is defined as N2, and N1 is replaced with N2 to perform the similar decision. Thus, the information on a target facility number N is obtained.

The map is scrolled in the advancing direction as the running of the vehicle. At this time, the azimuth of the map is automatically switched in correspondence with the advancing direction so that the upper side of map on the screen becomes the north or the south. The reversal of the north and south is displayed by changing the display color of the screen in correspondence with the azimuth of the map. For example, the table of the map-color pallets indicating roads, lands, sea, rivers, etc., is included in the map data, and the display colors are switched at every reversal of the north and the wouth. (LD indicates the land, and SA indicates the sea.) In this way, the turning direction to the left and right is intuitively judged, and the missing of the data caused by the azimuth symbol is prevented.
