    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing acetylated pyroxylin by reacting soluble cotton, dispersed in a dispersion medium, with acetic anhydride, wherein acetic anhydride, acetic acid or the like, present in the reaction solution and attached to crude acetylated pyroxylin separated by filtration from the reaction effluent, is recovered to facilitate reuse of the solvent. SOLUTION: This method has steps of (1) washing the crude acetylated pyroxylin (wet filter cake of the reaction solution), separated by filtration from the reaction effluent, with a detergent (e.g. a 6-8C aromatic hydrocarbon), (2) filtering the washed crude acetlylated pyroxylin, and (3) adding water to the filter cake (filter cake wet with the detergent, e.g. that wet with the aromatic hydrocarbon) to remove the detergent remaining on the cake by evaporation in the presence of water, to improve recovery rate of acetic anhydride, acetic acid or the like, facilitate recovery of the solvent used, and greatly reduce loads of waste treatment or the like.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To discover a method for recoverable acetic anhydride not contributed to a reaction after the reaction, capable of simplifying production equipment and to provide a method capable of simplifying production equipment and stabilizing quality in the method for producing acetylated nitrocellulose by reacting nitrocellulose with acetic anhydride. SOLUTION: This method performs an acetylation reaction of nitrocellulose in a state dispersed in a dispersion medium such as toluene while holding solid phase (fine fibers shape) and separates the resultant acetylated nitrocellulose from the reacted solution by filtration to be capable of recovering excess acetic anhydride not contributed to the reaction. By the method, a precipitation process formerly required in a solution reaction is to be useless and quality unstable factors caused by scattering of product particle size vanishes. Furthermore, acetylated nitrocellulose having excellent heat resistance and stability is provided by contriving a washing process for crude acetylated nitrocellulose after the reaction and adopting a washing with a detergent containing a stabilizer at a high temperature of 60-105 deg.C.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cellulose derivative which is insoluble in water and soluble in an organic solvent. SOLUTION: A part or the whole of hydrogen atoms of the hydroxyl groups in a cellulose molecule is substituted with a sulfoalkyl group of formula I: R1SO3M (R1 is a 1-5C hydrocarbon group which optionally contains an unsaturated bond or a hydroxyl group; M is H, an alkali metal or the like) and an acyl group of formula II: C(=O)R2 (R2 is a 1-40C hydrocarbon group which optionally contains an unsaturated bond or a hydroxyl group). Based on one mole of glucose anhydride unit, the introduced amount of the sulfoalkyl group expressed by formula I is 0.01-0.50 mole and that of the substituent expressed by formula II is 2.00-2.99 moles, and the total amount of the introduced substituents expressed by formulae I and II is less than 3.0 moles.
