    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyacrylonitrile-based polymer, by a batch-system polymerization, with small variation in the molecular weight of the polymer in each polymerization batch even if no polymerization tank washing is made between batches, thus enabling keeping stable quality of the final polymer.
      SOLUTION: The method for producing the polyacrylonitrile-based polymer comprises conducting a radical polymerization of acrylonitrile by a batch system using a polymerization tank with its atmosphere substituted by an inert gas. In this process, a polymer obtained in the preceding batch is extracted from the polymerization tank and an oxygen-containing gas is introduced into the polymerization tank followed by introducing the acrylonitrile into the polymerization tank and then substituting the inert gas for the atmosphere in the tank.
