    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a spherical polymer fine particle with a uniform particle diameter easily in a short time by exposing a fine core base material containing a polymerization initiator to a supersaturated atmosphere containing a polymerizable monomer to condense the polymerizable monomer on the surface and polymerizing the same. SOLUTION: A liquid or solid core base material is used. When a polymer fine particle having a desired particle diameter is not obtained in a step, the same step is repeated for several times to control the particle diameter. In this case, use of at least two different polymerizable monomers produces a polymer fine particle in which different polymer films are laminated. The core base material is especially preferably made of the polymerizable monomer as a base material and a polymerization initiator. The polymerizable monomer which forms a supersaturated atmosphere is preferably liquid at normal temperature and under normal pressure, and, above all, a compound having an ethylenically unsaturated bond is preferred. An oil-soluble radical polymerization initiator is preferably used as the polymerization initiator.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce surface modified particles with a simple device and operation by suspending particles in a liquid containing a modifying agent and heating the suspension liquid while transferring the liquid so as to obtain modified particles having excellent dispersibility by modifying (adding hydrophilic groups to) the particle surface with a modifying agent such as an oxidizing agent. SOLUTION: The suspension liquid 22 prepared by suspending particles in water in a chamber 21 of a particle suspending part 2 is introduced into a particle oxidizing part 4 which is heated to a specified temp., where the acidic liquid of the suspension liquid is drastically boiled and vaporized. Thereby, nuclear boiling is caused with particles as the nuclei in the suspension liquid so as to separate aggregated particles, as well as to oxidize the surface of particles to form hydrophilic particles. Hydrophilic particles are transferred from the particle oxidizing part 4 by expansion of the vaporized gas. Then the mixture liquid is cooled in cooling parts 61, 91 of first and second liquid treating zones 6, 9 so as condense and recover the acidic liquid as well as the mixture gas is dehumidified by a drying agent in drying parts 62, 92. The hydrophilic particles are collected from the dehumidified mixture gas.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing surface modified particles in which a film comprising a surface modifier composed of a polymer can be formed on the surfaces of the particles by a treatment in a short time according to simple operations with a simple apparatus without electrifying the particles. SOLUTION: Particles which contain a first monomer component and are to modify properties of surfaces are brought into contact with a supersaturated vapor of a second monomer component to thereby stick the second monomer component to the surfaces of the particles. Thereby, the first monomer component is polymerized with the second monomer component to form a polymeric film on the surfaces of the particles. A compound having two or more sulfonyl halide groups is used as either one of the first monomer component and the second monomer component. According to the method, surface modified particles coated with the polymeric film can be produced in a more efficient manner than that of a conventional method.
