CONSTITUTION:A glaze (e.g. a preparation of feldspar, quartz sand, zinc white, copper oxide, etc.) having a reduction-coloring component is applied on the surface of a tile base 12 to form an uncolored ornamental layer 10. A light- transmissive chemical-resistant protective film forming material 14 (e.g. a mixture of transparent frit and Gaerome clay) is then applied on the surface of the ornamental layer 10. The material is colored, a reducing gas generated by a reduction burner 16 is blown against the colored article which is still hot to reduction-color the coloring component of the ornamental layer 10, and an ornamental colored article is obtained. Since the obtained article has the chemical-resistant protective film 14, the article is not discolored or faded even when washed with a detergent.

CONSTITUTION:The flame-spray burner 2 used in the present process has an inner tube 6 encircling a gas-ejection port 5 and extending beyond the port. A mixed gas of a fuel gas and oxygen mixed at a ratio lower than a theoretical combustion ratio is blasted from the gas ejection port 5 into a space encircled with the inner tube 6 and burnt to form a reducing flame 7. An outer tube 8 is placed in such a manner as to encircle the inner tube 6 and an inert gas 9 is ejected through the space between the outer tube 8 and the inner tube 6. A glaze 3 containing metal powder is flame-sprayed against the tile substrate 1. The oxidation of the metal powder contained in the glaze 3 can be prevented by this process to obtain a glaze layer 4 having excellent metallic tone.

CONSTITUTION:A glaze 3 (e.g. SiO2 frit) is sprayed with a flame spraying burner 2 to the surface of a preparatorily baked tile substrate 1 to form a glaze layer 4. While the glaze layer 4 is still in a hot and viscous state, it is pressed with an embossing plate of a heat-resistant embossing mold 5 having indentations 6 corresponding to a letter or a pattern. An indented pattern 7 is formed on the surface of the glaze 4 and, at the same time, the surface is smoothened by the pressure of the embossing mold 5 to obtain a flame spray-coated tile having indented pattern 7. The indented pattern may be formed by pressing a fibrous heat-resistant material such as ceramic fiber in place of the embossing mold 5 against the glaze layer 4.
