    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect easily and surely a connecting point between a land track and a group track without lowering recording density by forming a binary differential signal from the differential signal of a photodetector, forming a discrimination signal gate signal from the differential signal, and detecting timing of a recording sector discrimination signal from the binary differential signal at the time of recording or reproduction of a disk medium. SOLUTION: When a light beam enters from an information recording part in a prescribed groove recording sector to the discrimination signal part of the next groove recording sector, a corresponding tracking error signal is outputted. Then, there is a discrimination signal part that is shifted by a half of the groove width in the inner periphery of a disk, a corresponding tracking error signal is outputted. By comparing the size of the two error signals, a servo can be controlled to the track center. Polarity information indicating whether the sector is the land sector or the group sector is contained in the discrimination signal other than the address of the sector, so that the polarity can be set by surely reading the discrimination information under normal tracking.
