    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve heat resistance of an optical waveguide module by using an adhesive having a specific glass transition temperature when a common base board is fixed so as to stride over an optical waveguide chip and optical fiber blocks. SOLUTION: An optical waveguide chip 1 and optical fiber blocks 2 and 3 are connected and fixed to each other by an adhesive 5 after the optical axes are made to coincide with each other. A common base board 4 is fixed by an adhesive 6 so as to stride over the optical waveguide chip 1 and the optical fiber blocks 2 and 3. An adhesive with a refractive index adjusted to cores of the optical waveguide chip 1 and the optical fiber blocks 2 and 3 is used as the adhesive 5. An adhesive having a glass transition temperature higher than a glass transition temperature of the adhesive 5 is used as the adhesive 6. When a module is sealed by using a thermally contractible tube, the glass transition temperature of the adhesive 6 is preferably set higher by at least 20 deg.C or more than a contracting temperature of the thermally contractible tube.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mounting method in which degradation due to inserting loss is suppressed when a thermally contracting tube is mounted into an optical waveguide module where at least one optical fiber is connected and fixed to the both sides of an optical waveguide chip such that optical axes of optical fiber blocks alignedly fixed on a substrate are coincident. SOLUTION: When a thermally contracting tube is mounted to improve long term reliability into an optical waveguide module where at least more than one optical fiber is connected and fixed to the both sides of an optical wave guide chip such that optical axis of optical fiber blocks aligneadly fixed on a substrate are coincident, by decreasing the internal temperature of the thermally contracting tube to at least 20 deg.C lower temperature than glass transition temperature of adhesive agent which is used for connection to glass, mounting of the tube does not degrade the inserting loss. Providing at least 300 deg.C of heat within five second during the mounting suppresses degradation of inserting loss due to the tube mounting.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce influence on a surface of a ferrule from outside.SOLUTION: An optical receptacle 1 includes: a ferrule 2; a sleeve 7 in which a tip of the ferrule 2 is inserted; a metal first holder 4 surrounding and holding the ferrule 2 at a location closer to a rear end side than the sleeve 7; and a metal second holder 5 surrounding and holding the ferrule 2 at a location closer to the rear end side than the first holder, and arranged alienated from the first holder 4. A groove part 9 is formed by the ferrule 2, the first holder 4 and the second holder 5. The groove part 9 is bent at a portion between a bottom face 91 and an opening 92, in a cross section sectioned at a planar surface including an optical axis of ferrule 2. Accordingly, influence on a surface of the ferrule 2 from outside can be reduced.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical component capable of making an optical isolator and other optical elements which are installed in an optical communication package compact in size, and capable of fixing them at sufficient strength.SOLUTION: The optical component includes: a holder 1 having an annular member 1a with an opening 2 at its center, and a projecting portion 1b formed around the opening 2 so as to be vertical to the plane of the opening; and an optical element 6 mounted to the projecting portion 1b opposite to the opening 2. Since the optical element 6 is not stuck around the opening 2, the need for a sticking margin is eliminated. Thus, the optical element 6 can be reduced in size.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that it is necessary to work the outer diameter of a fiber stub 25, with very high accuracy in order to connect, with low loss, cores (not shown in the figure) that are formed at the center of an optical fiber 23 to propagate optical signals and have approximately 10μm diameters, and it takes much labor and time for working since mirror grinding is required for the curved surfaces in order to directly connect the cores. SOLUTION: The optical receptacle includes a rod shaped lens 6, a cylindrical shaped sleeve 3 in which the tip part of the rod shaped lens 6 is inserted from one of the tip parts and fixed, the tip part of a plug ferrule 2 having an optical fiber 1, that is fixed at an axis center, is inserted from the other tip part and the tip surface of the plug ferrule 2 and the tip surface of the rod shaped lens 6 are abutted on each other and a cylindrical holder 4 which has a through-hole and holds the back tip part of the rod shaped lens 6 by the inner peripheral surface. Then, a curved surface process is conducted for the back tip surface of the rod shaped lens 6 so that a light converging point is provided at the tip surface of the optical fiber 1 located at the tip part of the plug ferrule 2.
