    • PURPOSE:To manufacture a pos. electrode plate having a low resistance and an excellent inter active substance bond by either filling the base with lead oxides containing a specific amount in % of PbO2 powder as chief component and the remainder of lower grade than PbO2 or filling the base with a substance obtained by adding aqueous solution of sulfuric acid to the main component powder followed by mixing thoroughly. CONSTITUTION:Lead sulfate is produced when dilute sulfuric acid of electrolyte is poured in an electrode having a base which is filled with a powder consisting of PbO2 of 85-99% powder with PbO2 as main component and the remainder consisting of lead oxides of lower grade than PbO2, and if current is flowed in an amount permitting oxidation of this lead sulfate into PbO2, the produced PbO2 through dissolution and/or eduction of lead sulfate works to make inter- crystalline bond for the PbO2. When the base is to be filled with powder chiefly containing PbO2, kneading using an aqueous solution of sulfuric acid turns the surfaces of PbO2 crystals into lead sulfates. Therefore, the inter-crystalline bond is strengthened by returning this portion of being turned into lead sulfate PbO2 again, and the lifetime is prolonged.

    • PURPOSE:To minimize voltage drop in initial discharge stage by connecting a high resistant element between a positive electrode having active material of oxihalide and a negative electrode comprising lithium to always conduct very weak current between them. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical lithium battery is formed with a positive electrode using oxihalide such as sulfur dioxide or thionyl chloride as active material and a negative electrode comprising lithium. A high resistant element 5 is connected between a can 2 which is a negative terminal and a positive terminal 6 and placed in a concavity of a battery cover 1, and buried with epoxy resin 7. By appropriately specifying the resistance value of the element 5, very weak current is always conducted between both terminals during storage. Thereby, generation of passive film on the surface of lithium during storage is prevented, and voltage drop in the initial discharge stage is minimized and high rate discharge performance is increased.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent a lug portion of the cathode from corrosion-breaking by performing group welding of the cathode so that a melting boundary portion produced by the melting of the tip of the lug is housed in a position which does not come into direct contact with electrolyte of sulfuric acid when group- welding the cathode using Pb-Sb based alloy. CONSTITUTION:Group welding of the cathode of a battery with the anode made of a grid body of Pb-Sb based alloy and with the cathode made of a grid alloy body of Pb-Ca based alloy is performed by using the Pb-Sb based 1. At this time, the side surface of a lug portion 1 is wetted with molten alloy supplied for forming a strap 2. Welding is performed so that the melting boundary portion 3 produced by melting of the tip of the lug portion 1 is housed in a strap 2 or a fillet connected thereto. This prevents the boundary portion 3 from direct contact with an electrolyte of sulfuric acid, reduces the breakage of the lug portion due to corrosion, and prevents the progress of the strap corrosion.
