    • PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of a double surface and to facilitate an operation by executing casting while pressing force is kept exerted to the casting space side of casting mold short sides at the time of continuous casting of the thin ingot. CONSTITUTION:Hydraulic cylinders 2a, 2b are respectively disposed to the outside of the mold short sides 1a, 1b of a continuous casting machine and the mold short sides la, lb are pressed toward the casting space side 3. A high pressure-low pressure selector solenoid valve 6, a high pressure solenoid valve 5, and a low pressure solenoid valve 4 are respectively provided in a hydraulic circuit so that the hydraulic cylinders 2a, 2b can be selected to both the high and low pressures. When the thermal shrinkage quantity of the ingot changes with the change of the casting speed at the time of the continuous casting of the ingot, the pressing force is adjusted in follow up to such change to adjust the taper quantity of the mold short sides 1a, 1b. The mold short sides 1a, 1b move according to the thermal shrinkage quantity of the ingot according to the above-mentioned method; therefore, the generation of the double surface is prevented and the operation is facilitated.

    • PURPOSE:To stabilize the operation by forming a protruded bending curve at the side face of an upper portion of a side plate for a mold and also forming a recessed bending curve toward a belt direction at the side face of a lower portion. CONSTITUTION:The fixed side plate 11 composing of a mold for coontinuous casting is formed, so that its upper side face containing a molten metal surface position has a protruded bending curve to a cooling pad 12 direction. Further, the side face of the lower portion for the fixed side plate 11 is formed, so as to have the recessed bending curve to the cooling pad 12 direction, that is, the belt direction. In this way, in the upper range of the molten metal pool, the belt 3 is pushed to the fixed sided plate 11 direction by belt tension T, to secure air-tight of the mold. In the lower portion of the mold, as the side face of the side plate 11 is formed to the recessed shape, the tightening to the short side is executed by the belt 3. Therefore, the insertion phenomenon of molten metal in the mold is eliminated and the operation of continuous casting is stably executed without any interruption.
