    • PURPOSE:To independently measure the concns. of methanol etc. in an electrolyte, by changing relative sensitivity to methanol etc. by changing the Mo-to-W ratio and/or applying potential of three detection electrodes. CONSTITUTION:When electrolysis is performed in an aqueous solution containing 1mol/l of H2SO4 and 1mol/l of methanol, formaldehyde or formic acid at constant potential using an electrode comprising a carbide catalyst W1-XMoXC, the relation between a current value and Mo-content (x) is shown by a drawing. As (x) increases, the sensitivity to methanol is enhanced and the sensitivity to formic acid is lowered while the sensitivity to formaldehyde is slightly enhanced. On the basis of this experimental result, the electrode comprising the catalyst wherein (x) is 0 is set to 0.3V and electrodes wherein (x) is 0.7 to 0.2V and 0.5V and the concn. dependence of response to each org. substance in a 1mol/l H2SO4 electrolyte is measured. In such a case that or. substances are mixed in each electrode system, an additivity is formed.
