    • PURPOSE:To obtain the spring increased in the amount of spontaneous shape change and excellent in memory characteristics by forming a shape memory alloy wire into a coil spring, applying heat treatment to the above coil spring, rewinding the coil spring in a reverse direction with respect to the axial direction, successively exiting training, and providing spring characteristic consisting of contraction at high temp. and expansion at low temp. CONSTITUTION:A coil spring 1 composed of a shape memory alloy wire is held in an expanded state and subjected to the prescribed shape memory heat treatment. Subsequently, this spring 1 is inserted around a mandrel 3 in the above state and one end of the coil 1 is fixed by means of a fixing terminal 4, and the coil spring 1 is rewound as a coil spring 1' around a mandrel 3' of the same diameter rotated in the direction of an arrow, by which the close coil spring 1' in which the order of folding is reversed is prepared. Then, the spring 1' is subjected to a training in which the spring 1' is pulled while keeping the spring diameter of the spring 1' and heating and cooling are repeated while fixing the spring 1' in the above state, by which bidirectional shape memory coil spring contracting at high temp. and expanding at low temp. can be produced.

    • PURPOSE:To avoid danger such as a burn or the like with simple structure and without increasing a cost by providing a valve having a shape memory alloy spring integrally with a check valve of at the front thereof to prevent both reverse flow and overheat. CONSTITUTION:An overheat preventing valve 12 having a valve seat 2 and a valve 3 and having a shape memory alloy spring 11, in which a shape is memorized so as to be extended at the time of overheat, inserted in front of the valve 2 is provided in front of a spring type check valve 5 in pipeline 1. A shape memory recovery temperature of this shape memory alloy spring 11 is set at a temperature more suitable for a hot-water supply system, for example, when temperature of the hot-water exceeds 50 deg.C as a dangerous temperature for burning a human body, the spring force becomes stronger than the pressure of a water flow shown with the arrow, and the spring is extended to make the valve 3 to abut on the valve seat 2 shown with a broken line, and the valve 3 is closed to cut off the supply of the overheated hot-water. Thereafter, when the temperature of the hot-water supply is lowered, the spring force of the shape memory alloy spring 11 is lowered, and the valve 3 is opened by the pressure of the water flow to supply the hot-water.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain excellent corrosion resistance by providing a long protruding part from both end parts of a joint in a liner, in the case of a shape memory alloy joint in which a pipe-shaped joint of shape memory alloy and the liner, formed of a small thickness pipe of equal material to the piping material, in an inner side of the pipe-shaped joint are arranged. CONSTITUTION:Pipes 1 are firmly tightened and connected through a liner 3 by heating a joint 2, by inserting the liner 3 of equal material to the pipes 1 into end parts of the connected pipes 1 and the joint 2, formed of a shape memory alloy, to an outer side of this liner 3. A sufficiently long protruding part 4 from both end parts of the joint 2 of the shape memory alloy is provided in the liner 3. The protruding part 4 of the liner 3 is formed into a flange part 5 of thickness larger than the center part of the liner 3, and it is formed by providing slits 6 radially in the perphery of the flange part 5. As a result, excellent corrosion resistance is provided relating not only to fluid circulated in the pipe but also to an external environment of the pipe.
