    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively prevent the poisoning of a catalyst having high catalytic capacity such as palladium or the like, to keep high catalytic capacity over a long period of time by arranging a means acting on the poisoning substance of the catalyst to lose the poisoning properties of the poisoning substance in close vicinity to a catalyst effective for removing carbon monoxide in exhaust gas of a car. SOLUTION: A means decomposing the poisoning substance of a catalyst is arranged in close vicinity to the catalyst as a means acting on the poisoning substance of the catalyst to lose the poisoning properties thereof. By this mechanism, the catalyst acts on the poisoning substance when the poisoning substance repeating the adsorption/ separation on the catalyst is separated to lose poisoning properties. Or, a means weakening the adsorption of the poisoning substance to the catalyst is provided and a poisoning quantity is reduced by lowering adsorption concn. in the adsorption/ separation equilibrium of the poisoning substance on the catalyst. Further, a means adsorbing a poisoning substance on the catalyst may be provided or a photocatalyst may be arranged in close vicinity to the catalyst and the poisoning substance of the catalyst is subjected to photocatalytic action corresponding to the optical excitation of the photocatalyst to lose the poisoning properties thereof.
