    • PURPOSE:To eliminate the local swelling of the surface of molten metal and to reduce the damage of refractory by providing an upper-stage and the lower-stage tuyere to a smelting vessel, and specifying the supply of respective gases and the ratio of the supply from the upper tuyere and the lower tuyere. CONSTITUTION:The upper-stage and the lower-stage tuyere 10a, 10b, and 10c are provided at positions different in height in a gas-blowing smelting vessel. The supply of gas from each tuyere 10a, 10b, and 10c is regulated in the range of 0.3-2.0Nm /ton.min. The ratio of supply of gas from the upper-stage tuyere 10b and the supply from the lower-stage tuyeres 10a and 10c is regulated in the range 1:1.5-1:4.0. By said smelting method, gentle swelling is formed without generating local swelling on the surface of molten steel 11 and slag 12, and the molten steel 11 is agitated and smelted. Accordingly, the generation of splashes is reduced, and the damage of the refractory in the vicinity of the surface of molten metal is reduced.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent splashing of molten metal and slag during refining in the stage of decarburizing and refining a stainless steel, etc. in an AOD type converter by providing tuyeres for blowing a gaseous mixture composed of O2 and Ar at different levels in a horizontal direction. CONSTITUTION:Tuyeres 10a, 10b, 10c for blowing a gaseous mixture composed of O2 and Ar are disposed at different levels in the stage of decarburizing and refining a molten stainless steel in an AOD type converter. More specifically, the tuyeres 10a, 10c are provided at the same level at theta2=60 deg. space toward the central direction of the furnace inside and the tuyere 10b is provided in the intermediate position (theta3=30 deg.) at the plane of 10a and 10c in the position upper than 10a, 10c. A gaseous mixture composed of O2+Ar is blown through the tuyere 10b with the ejecting force smaller than the ejecting force of the gas from the tuyeres 10a, 10c during refining, by which the splashing owing to the build-up of the molten steel 31 and molten slag 32 in the furnace is obviated and the consequent damage of refractories 25, 27 in the furnace is decreased.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce a metal oxide and to efficiently add the same to a molten steel at a low cost by blowing a reducing agent by a carrier gas from an immersion lance into the molten steel, while blowing the metal oxide by an inert carrier gas through a hollow arc electrode into the molten steel. CONSTITUTION:The molten steel 6 is refined by adding alloy components thereto under the arc heating by the hollow electrode 2 in an arc furnace body 1 housing the molten steel 6. The metal oxide 9 from a hopper 4A is entrained in the inert carrier gas and is blown through the above-mentioned hollow electrode 2 into the molten steel in the above-mentioned refining method. Furthermore, the reducing agent 8 from a hopper 4A is entrained in the carrier gas using the inert gas or air and is blown from the immersion lance 3 into the molten steel. One or more than one kinds among Si, Al, aluminum ash and carbon powder are used as the above-mentioned reducing agent 8 and one or more than one kinds among Cr2O3, NiO, MoO3, and WO3 are used as the metal oxide. The above-mentioned oxide is thereby reduced to the metal and is added to the molten steel 6. Formation of slag 7 and desulfurization are executable by blowing CaO and CaF2 as a slag forming agent further into the molten steel at this time.
