摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To equalize gains of optical amplification transmission lines. SOLUTION: The optical amplification line consisting of multiple transmitting optical fibers 16 and optical amplifiers 18 for relay amplification purpose that amplify signals through the fibers 16 is adopted for an optical fiber transmission line 14 that interconnects an optical transmission station 10 and an optical reception station 12. Etalon filters 20 with a narrow free spectral range(FSR) are frequently inserted in the optical fiber transmission line 14 at a narrow interval and etalon filters 22 with wide FSR are inserted at a long interval. The transmittivity wavelength characteristic of the etalon filter 20 is designed so that one period of the FSR includes a utility band of the optical amplifier 18, that is, a signal light frequency band of the wavelength division multiplex transmission system, and a peak wavelength λg of the gain of the optical amplifier 18 is placed nearly in the middle a transmittivity peak wavelength λa and a transmittivity bottom wavelength λb of the etalon filter 20. The transmittivity wavelength characteristic of the etalon filter 22 is designed so that the FSR is enough wide to cover a plurality of periods of the etalon filter 20 and the gain peak wavelength is in matching with the wavelength λb of the etalon filter 20.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To collectively compensate a diffused slope, compensate gain wavelength dependency and reduce light noise accumulation and to considerably improve the transmission characteristic of a wavelength multiplex light signal by providing a first array light waveguide separating input light, plural correction means correcting the separated light signals and a second array light waveguide multiplexing corrected output. SOLUTION: A multiplexed n-wavelength signal which is transmitted through an optical fiber 1 is inputted from one light input terminal and it is separated into one wavelength by a first array light waveguide-type wavelength separation circuit 3. The separated optical signal is subjected to dispersion equalization and gain equalization a dispersion equalizing element 5 and a gain equalizing element 6. The optical signal outputted from the correction means is n- wavelength multiplexed again by an array light waveguide-type wavelength multiplex circuit 4. In the first and second array light waveguides, the tops of transmission wavelength characteristic has flat-top forms and not less than 1/3 of 3dB bandwidth is desirable to be used for 0.3dB bandwidth.

SOLUTION: Transmission signals branched in part by optical branching device 3-1, 3-2 are synthesized and the result is given to a BPF 12, from which a control signal λcont in the transmission signal is extracted. A direction of rotation of reversible 4-terminal optical circulators 1-1 to 1-4 is reversed on the occurrence of a failure by this control signal. Since the wavelength λcont is selected at an out-band wavelength of the transmission signal, a wavelength resource is not wasted.
