The front shaft portion 1 includes: a ferrule 4 having a sliding piece 3 internally installed; a front shaft body 5 to which the ferrule 4 is screwed; a fixation guide mechanism internally installed in the front shaft body 5; a lead tank 8 capable of traveling through a through hole of the fixation guide mechanism part; a lead feeding mechanism 9 provided between a tip of the lead tank 8 and the ferrule 4; a presser top 10 mounted to a rear end part of the fixation guide mechanism part and cooperated with the lead feeding mechanism 9; and a presser pin 11 having a tip swingably pivoted to a rear end of the presser top 10. The rear shaft portion 2 includes: a rear shaft body 12 slidably inserted into the front shaft body 5; a lock mechanism 13 internally installed in the rear shaft body 12; and the cap top 16 fixed to a rear end of the rear shaft body 12 and having a step regulating swinging of the presser pin 11.

In addition, the lead tip of the writing utensil is freely projectable from the apex of a mouthpiece by changing the rotating motion of the rotary barrel to the straight line motion of the lead tank and the fitting case by the operation of the barrel part and the sheath. At the same time, an auxiliary fitment such as an eraser attached to the apex of the fitting case is set to be freely projectable from an opening of the crown and also the rotation of the rotary barrel is stopped during the projection of the lead tip from the mouthpiece. Thus the free regulation of a projecting length of the lead in a mechanical pencil can be made by the reciprocating ejection operation of the lead tank fitting case.

The rotation of the rotary holder tube is made convertible into the linear movement of the holder and thereby the seal provided at the fore end of the holder is made capable of opening the cap against a pressing force of the cap, or the tip of a ballpoint pen refill provided in the core holder is made capable of being projected and retracted from a metal cap.
