摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject resin capable of giving coating films excellent in weatherability and solvent resistance, etc., by reaction between a polyol and an organic polyisocyanate in specific unsaturated monomer(s) without the need of using any organic solvent to form a specific urethane prepolymer followed by its chain extension into a polyurethane which, in turn, is dispersed in water and subjected to radical polymerization. 摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ester-group-containing porous resin in which the functional moieties are arranged and oriented on or near the surface of a primary particle of the resin by polymerizing a mixture containing divinylbenzene and a vinylbenzyloxyalkyl ester derivative. SOLUTION: A mixture containing 3-30 wt.% vinylbenzyloxyalkyl ester derivative represented by the formula (n is 2-16; and R is a 1-4C alkyl), 15-97 wt.% divinylbenzene and 0-82 wt.% aromatic vinyl monomer such as styrene is mixed with an organic solvent such as hexane in a solvent/monomer ratio of 70/30 to 25/75 by volume. The resulting mixture and a polymerization initiator such as lauryl peroxide are added under agitation to an aqueous medium in which a dispersion stabilizer such as polyacrylamide has been dissolved, and the entire is subjected to polymerization at elevated temperature. The porous resin obtained by separating the product by filtration after the reaction, and washing and drying it has a surface area of 50-600 m /g, a secondary particle diameter of 50 μm to 2 mm and a degree of orientation of functional groups of 75% or above.

SOLUTION: When vinyl chloride or vinyl chloride and an ethylenically unsaturated monomer (e.g. ethylene) copolymerizable with vinyl chloride are subjected to emulsion (co)polymerization or seeding emulsion (co)polymerization, net power required for agitation per unit inner volume is set to 0.1-0.3 kW/m in a first period at 0 to =75% rate of polymerization and set to 0.0001-0.0008 kW/m when unreacted monomer after finishing polymerization reaction is recovered or when the above monomer or monomers are subjected to fine suspension polymerization or seeding suspension polymerization, agitation is carried out by power suitable for each stage at rates of polymerization: 0-40%, 40-75%, 50-100% and in recovery of unreacted monomer.

The compd. is used in an amt. of 0.001-0.2wt.% of the monomer. A usually used polymn. process can be used without any specific limitation; however, a suspension polymn. with an oil-soluble polymn. initiator (e.g. benzoyl peroxide) and a dispersion stabilizer (e.g. a water-soluble partially saponified vinyl acetate) is markedly effective and suitable.
