    • PURPOSE:To prevent the warp of a cast slab by controlling a secondary cooling water quantity to the cast slab so that the difference between the measured values at the upper part and the lower part of the cast slab becomes the allowable value or below. CONSTITUTION:The cast slab 2 extruded from a mold 1 in a continuous casting apparatus is forge-pressed by using a forge-pressing device 8. At this time, the surface temps. of the upper part and the lower part of the cast slab 2 before forge-pressing are measured by the surface thermometer 9. The secondary cooling water quantity to the cast slab 2 is controlled by using a valve opening regulator 6 and a cooling water arithmetic unit 7 in the secondary cooing zone 3 so that the difference between the measured values at the upper part and the lower part becomes the allowable value or below. At the forge-pressing position of the cast slab 2, the surface temp., rolling reduction rate and change of the shape in the cast slab 29 are measured by using the surface thermometer 9, rolling reduction rate measuring instrument 10, warp rate detector 11, etc. By using a part or all of these measured values, the secondary cooling water quantity is obtd. from the cooling water arithmetic unit 7. Thus, the operation can be stabilized.
