    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To install a variable inlet valve capable of enhancing the output performance of an engine without acting as a baffle when the valve is opened in a position equal from each port of a partition wall of a surge tank. SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine is constituted such that an inlet manifold introducing intake gas into each cylinder of a V-type multi-cylinder internal combustion engine is divided into two groups, each group of the inlet manifold is connected to one side surface in the length direction of each chamber of the surge tank 12 divided into two chambers 12A, 12B with the partition wall 13, and the intake gas is supplied to the surge tank 12 from the direction perpendicularly crossing to the side surface. An opening 14 is installed in the position equal from each port 16P in the central part of the partition wall 13, and a rotating shaft 18 to which a valve element 11 of the variable inlet valve 10 opening and closing the opening 14 is fit is positioned in the vicinity of the wall surface on the opposite side to the port. As a result, the valve element 11 does not act as the baffle when the valve element 11 is opened, pressure loss is decreased, and output performance is enhanced.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized muffler for reducing low-frequency noise generated in an intake pipe. SOLUTION: A recessed surface 14a of a parabola part 14 faces to the downstream side of the intake air flow, namely, to the noise generating side. A noise collecting valve 20 is a valve for intermitting the communication between an intake passage 10a and a noise collecting capacity chamber 17 in accordance with a change of noise pressure in the intake passage 10a. When noise pressure in the intake passage 10a is normal pressure, the noise collecting valve 20 releases a noise collecting hole 14b and a communication passage 15a, and therefore, the intake passage 10a communicates with the noise collecting capacity chamber 17. The normal pressure part of low-frequency noise is collected to the noise collecting capacity chamber 17 and then discharged from the exhaust pipe 18 to the outside of an intake system. High-frequency noise not collected by the noise collecting valve 20 is reflected from the parabola part 14, collected from a noise receiving port 31a positioned in a focal point to a noise receiving capacity chamber 32, and then damped in the noise collecting capacity chamber 32.
