    • PURPOSE:To manufacture a roll stand having an excellent safety in strength, by welding several rolled steel plates for constructing respective upper and lower blocks and left and right posts separately, in manufacturing a roll stand of a rolling mill. CONSTITUTION:A roll stand 1 of a rolling mill is constituted of upper and lower blocks 2, 3 and left and right posts 4, 5, and each of the blocks is constructed with one piece of rolled steel plate and each of the posts with two pieces among rolled steel plates 4a, 4b, 5a, and 5b, respectively. After tack welding respective rolled steel plates through a starting tab used for electroslag welding, the welded body is layed so that the left post is at the top and is mounted on a base 13 by supporting legs 12. Next, a central butting part A of the post 5, butting parts B, C at its both sides and a central butting part D of the post 4, butting parts E, F at its both sides are respectively welded in sequence, by a nozzle of an electroslag welder travelling on a rail 14, to manufacture a roll stand excellent in strength.

CONSTITUTION:Electromagnets 12, 12' provided with devices that regulate the intensity H3, H3' of magnetic fields are arranged on both ends of a band electrode 1 to control current density in the band electrode 1. When current density of left side becomes thin for some reason, a magnetic field H3 opposite in direction to magnetic field H2 generated at left end of the band electrode 1 is generated by the electromagnet 12 of the left side, and current of coils 13, 13' is adjusted to erase the magnetic field H2 of left end of the band electrode 1.

    • PURPOSE:To perform titled full-circled welding efficiently in a short time at a low cost, by placing a square steel pipe which is tack welded with a square steel plate for a partition wall provided with grooves on four sides in a specific state then welding the grooves through the through-holes of the square pipe walls. CONSTITUTION:Strap plates 3 consisting of flat steel projecting from a square steel plate 2 for a partition wall by the size corresponding to a groove distance are welded over the entire circumference on both surfaces of said steel plate to constitute a square steel plate A for the partition wall provided with the strap plates formed with grooves 4a-4d. After such plate A is tack welded to the prescribed position of a square steel pipe 1, the steel pipe 1 is positioned in a specified position by means of jigs, etc. in such a way that the diagonal lines of the section perpendicular to the pipe axis are made approximately vertical. Through-holes 6a-6e are beforehand punched respectively on the diagonal upper extension lines of the grooves 4a-4d of the plate A and the diagonal lower extension lines of the groove 4b, and further end tabs 7a-7e are welded to the surfaces thereof. Therefore, a flux is charged in the bottom of the groove 4b, and coated consumable electrodes 9 are inserted and fixed in the grooves 9; thereafter, the grooves are subjected to weld all around by an electroslag or electrogas welding method.

    • PURPOSE:To increase welding speed, lower dilution and widen width of weld bead by using an electrode in which the beltlike tip forms a semi-circular curl of specified radius of curvature. CONSTITUTION:A beltlike electrode in which semicircular curl having radius of curvature of 2-30mm. and curves to the rear of direction of advance of welding is formed on both sides or one side of the tip is used. Or, an electrode in which a linear part 10mm. in length is formed outside of the semi-circular curl is used. As welding progresses in the direction of the arrow (a), flux 14 scattered in front of the electrode 12 goes round from outside of the curls 10, 10 on both sides of the electrode 12 to the rear, and does not enter inside of molten slag 13 inside of the curve of the electrode 12. Accordingly, contact of the electrode 12 and slag 13 is not obstructed by the flux 14. Consequently, no arc is generated and deep penetration of base metal 16 at the end parts 17, 17 of weld bead does not take place.

    • PURPOSE:To maintain the aiming position of a torch always correctly and to form a good welded joint by advancing or retreating the torch synchronously by advancing or retreating of a sliding strap when undulation or ruggedness appears on the surface of base materials in accordance with the progression of welding. CONSTITUTION:A sliding strap 9 is positioned to the groove of base materials by adjusting an embracing part 33, the 3rd arm 32, and the 1st arm 10 and is fixed by means of a bolt 34, then welding is started. When undulation or ruggedness appears on the surfaces of the base materials in accordance with the progression of welding, the strap 9 is pressed by the undulation or the ruggedness and is advanced or retreated in the thickness direction E of the base materials. By such movement, a slider 36 is advanced or retreated in the direction E of the base materials via guiding bars 38, 39. Thus a torch 11 is advanced or retreated synchronously with the strap 9 by means of a containing part 16 for an oscillating mechanism and a bracket 26, whereby the arc point is traced always accurately and the aiming position of the torch 11 is maintained always correctly.
