    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transparent resin material improved in heat resistance as a resin which is used for an optical element, and the like, having a high refractive index and a high Abbe's number. SOLUTION: The transparent resin optical material is obtained by curing a composition for the transparent resin which contains a polythiol having a structure expressed by formula (1) or formula (2). Thus, a compound useful as a raw material for the new optical material in a field in which the high refractive index is required is obtained. Further, the resin obtained by polymerizing and curing the composition has very high optical characteristics and is improved in the heat resistance, so that the resin contributes to development of the optical element which requires the high heat resistance as a characteristic.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyarylene-based polymer by a polycondensation in an organic solvent, by which the polymer having a high mol. wt. can safely and simply be obtained, and further the polymer having a high mol. wt. can be obtained, even when a monomer having an ionic group and having water bound thereto is used.
      SOLUTION: This method for producing the polyarylene-based polymer by polycondensing an aromatic dihalide compound with a dihydric phenol compound or a dihydric thiophenol compound in the presence of an alkali metal compound in an organic polar solvent is characterized by using a solvent which is liquid at ordinary temperature, after dehydrating in the reaction system, pressurizing to polycondense the monomers at the higher temperature than the boiling point of the solvent at the ordinary pressure.
