    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an armrest operation type reclining chair for which the tilting/erecting operations of a backrest can be gently performed and with which a comfortable using feeling can be obtained.
      SOLUTION: The reclining chair whose backrest 210 is inclined/erected by the operation of an armrest 240 comprises: the backrest 210; a seat part 220 composed by mounting a cushion member on a seat part frame 221 extended in a horizontal direction; a leg part 230 composed by pivoting the left and right upper end parts of a front leg part frame 231 and a rear leg part frame 232 by a pin P1 for determining an inclined position; and the armrest 240 provided with an armrest frame in which an elbow side is pivoted at a backrest frame 211 by a pin P2, a fingertip side is made turnable upwards, and a locking part capable of locking the pin P1 at a desired position is provided to the inside or outside of the fingertip side. A tension coil spring is disposed between the pin P1 and the pin P2, and the reclining chair is constituted.

SOLUTION: An armrest 4 is mounted on a side of a backrest seat 3 of a seat 1 in such a way that the armrest 4 can be turned with a lateral collar 10. A height adjusting device of the armrest has the lock device L mounted between the collar 10 and the armrest frame 8 of the armrest 4. In the use range A for using the armrest 4, the lock device L locks the downward turn of the armrest 4, permitting only the upward turn so that the height of the armrest can be adjusted. In a prescribed storage range B positioned at the upper limit position of the using range A or higher, the armrest 4 is unlocked so that both upward and downward turn is possible. When the armrest is turned downward from the storage range B to the lowest position in the use range A, the lock device L returns the armrest to the position where the downward turn can be locked.     • An armrest construction for chairs includes an armrest support having a lower end constructed for attachment to a chair, an upper end, and a mounting block attached to the upper end. A pivot block is pivoted to the mounting block at a main pivot, the pivot block having an upwardly-extending follower. First and second gears are each pivoted to the pivot block, the gears having intermeshing teeth at an inner end such that rotation of the first gear causes the second gear to simultaneously rotate in an opposite direction, the first and second gears further having outer ends. A support plate having pivot/slide members engages the outer ends of the first and second gears, and further has a guide operably engaging the follower to guide lateral movement of the support plate along a predetermined path. The support plate is rotatable about the main pivot to adjust the angular orientation of the armrest construction and is laterally movable along continuously parallel positions to adjust a width of the armrest construction relative to the chair. The armrest construction is mounted on a vertically-adjustable armrest support member for optimal adjustability.

    • An adjustable arm rest assembly for use on a chair including an arm rest post and an arm rest support surface. According to one aspect of the invention, the support surface is pivotably attached to a top surface of the arm rest post. The support surface includes a front portion and a rear portion and is pivotable about a pivot axis that extends in parallel with the seat back of the chair. A locking element is attached to one of the arm rest post and the support surface. The locking element includes a front portion and a rear portion with the front portion including a first mating element. The front portions of the support surface and locking element are farther from the seat back than the rear portions. A guide member is attached to the other of the arm rest post and the support surface. The guide member is located adjacent the front portion of the locking element and is adapted to receive the first mating element into one of a plurality of second mating elements. The locking element and the guide member are movable with respect to one another so that the support surface may be secured in a selected position relative to the arm rest post.
