    • PURPOSE:To enhance a resistance to solvent of a resin substrate, surface reflecting properties, recording sensitivity, and recording regeneration characteristics, such as S/N ratio, by a method wherein the surface of an undercoat layer is made of a plasma- treated silicone resin layer. CONSTITUTION:In the production of an optical information recording medium provided with a recording layer 1 of an organic film mainly composed of a naphthalocyanine dye shown by a formula (I) on a resin substrate 2 through an undercoat layer 5, a silicone resin solution is applied as the undercoat layer, dried or set, and plasma-treated under a reduced pressure not more than 100 torr until the contact angle of the surface of the silicone resin undercoat layer to water is reduced to 40 degrees or under. At this time, an oxygen plasma treatment is preferably conducted. Then, a recording medium provided with the recording layer having a superior adhesion with the under coat layer and a uniform film thickness can be produced. As the silicone resin used for the undercoat layer, every silicone resin which is soluble in a solvent, such as alcohol, never corroding the resin substrate can be used, but that of a two-pack type and curing at a temp. of 150 deg.C or below is preferable. The thickness of the undercoat layer is preferably 50-2,000Angstrom .

    • PURPOSE:To provide a liq. crystal compsn. which permits effective utilization of semiconductor laser beam and gives display with excellent contrast, and which comprises a liq. crystal compd. exhibiting a smectic intermediate phase at temps. within a particular range and, added thereto, a naphthalocyanine pigment. CONSTITUTION:A desirable liq. crystal compsn. is obtd. by adding 0.1-10pts.wt. naphthalocyanine pigment of formula II to 100pts.wt. liq. crystal compd. exhibiting a smectic intermediate phase at temps. within a particular range [e.g., a compd. contg. a cyanobiphenyl compd. of formula I (wherein R' is an 8-12C straight-chain alkyl, straight-chain alkoxy), etc.]. In the formula II, R1-R4 are each H, alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, NO2, SO3H, halogen, etc.; n is 1-6; Y1 and Y2 are each -R9, -Ar, -OAr, -OSi(R9)3, etc. wherein R9 is 1-18C alkyl; Ar is (substd.)phenyl, (substd.)benzyl; and M is Al, Ti, Si, Ge, Sn, with the proviso that M is Al, only Y1 is bonded to M. In a liq. crystal display unit wherein a recording method employing thermoelectrical-optical effect is adopted, the compsn. permits effective absorption of laser beam, esp. semiconductor laser beam, so that display with excellent contrast can be obtd.
