As the voltage between power-side terminals 1 increases, thyristors 13 and 14 conduct to develop across series transformer 4 a voltage decreasing the voltage between load terminal 2, so that the voltage between terminals will be held rated. As the voltage terminals 1 decreases, thyristors 11 and 12 conduct and then a voltage increasing the voltage between terminals 2 is developed across series transformer 4, so that the voltage between terminals 2 will be held rated as well.
